Our topic is 'Awesome Animals!'
Thank you to all the parents that supported us in our trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park, the children had a wonderful day and have been inspired in their learning. We have learnt to name and classify different animals and learnt to use words such as 'carnivore', 'herbivore' and 'omnivore' to describe animals. We are beginning to learn about our senses and will be finding out about the different parts of our body.
We have written some fabulous animal poems which are proudly displayed in our classroom and have done lots of independent investigating using non-fiction books to answer our questions.
We are working hard during phonics to prepare for our phonics screening which will take place later in the year. We have been practising our reading daily, please remember to bring children's reading books in every day so they do not miss out. We have learnt a 'top tips poem' in order to help us remember our reading strategies, please practise this with your children.
We have been working hard in Mathematics learning about 'Multiplication and Division' and 'Fractions' and we are now moving on to revisit our 'Place Value' work but this time looking at numbers to 100!
This half term our P.E lessons will be on a Monday afternoon and a Thursday morning. Please ensure children have a named P.E. kit consisting of red shorts, a white t-shirt and appropriate footwear. This can stay in school and be taken home during the holidays. Please ensure earrings are removed on P.E days.
Please ensure children are appropriately dressed for the current weather conditions, they still require a coat every day as the weather changes as well as a sun hat. Please apply sun cream in the morning so that children do not need to do this during the day.
We will bring home a homework challenge every Friday, please support the children to complete this independently and return it to school on Wednesday so that we can celebrate the children's hard work with them.
We have an 'open door policy', if you need to pass on a message about your child on a morning then please speak to Miss McHale or Mrs Mawson. If you require a longer conversation then please contact Miss McHale to make an appointment.
We always welcome parental support, if you are able to spare some time either on a regular or ad hoc basis then we would love to hear from you.
